    Mark,
What is the advantage of biopellets over Vodka dosing?

  • Craig says:

I too am straining to hear you. I have volume up all the way and I guess I have to hold the speakers up to my ears 🙁

  • Simon K. says:

    Dear Eric,

I believe that traditionally vodka dosing is much more labour intensive as the hobbyist has to manually dose vodka daily (don’t quote me on that). Whereas bio pellets are more automated. Add small amount of pellets and see how the tank reacts. Yes, you will need a dedicated bio pellet reactor and possibly a pump and a good skimmer to export nutrients but its mostly set it and forget it. It’s kind of a long topic of discussion so do ur homework on both methods.

For the anemone hosting issue I would recommend a liberal application of superglue (gel type).

I love spending my Sat morning watching your tank and listening to the new q&a! It is a little harder to hear this time, but always good information! I just wanted to tell you how much I laugh at your Terrible Advice Tuesdays thread and basically enjoy your website! Safe travels in the snow! From NM here 🙂

Hi Mark,if the nitrates high, you said that just by changing water, but how many gallon and days for changing it, my tank is 75 gallon, it always make mad, thank you for your help.

  • Frank says:

Mark. another informative video but volume is very low. If it was louder like your theme music, that would be great. Thanks

  • John says:

    Hi Mark,
Great Vid, and I also had to turn my volume up above what I normal set it.
I have just started to try the Bio Pellets in a reactor to help lower Nitrates etc, plus I run a phosphate reactor now too. I have a totally mixed reef tank, about 400 litres (105 Gallons approx.) including the sump and a separate refugium.
I now have next to no Nitrates and my phosphate’s which were always high, (0.36) dropped to near 0.02
Bio Pellets are worth trying, just take it slow. They seemed to help my tank so far, but I still have to find the happy medium of how much to use. That will just be trial and error, and keeping a close eye on my tank.

As for clown fish in the anemone thing. I used a floating basket, and placed 2 clownfish that had never seen an anemone into it, with an anemone, and left them for a few weeks.
It worked for me, and I now have the clown fish which stay close to, and in the anemone all the time.

Keep up with the great vids..
    John, from Brisbane, Australia
