What can I say… It is indeed unbelievably sexy ! !

  • Ted says:

Great tank mark! Welcome to the nano world! Two tanks is quite a chore. I had a pico in addition to my nano that I did daily water changes on. It got old real quick.

  • oscar says:

    sexy tank be sexy 😛

  • Mad Hatter Reef says:

You had me at Sexy Tank… LOL. Good insight on the Rimless I never would have thought about how much of a pain that would be to clean. Veeerrrry Slooowww. Not to mention all the free willy action that could happen, with fish jumping out of the tank.

  • Joe Vegas says:

Love the tank! Can’t wait to see what you do with it. I have a 14 gal biocube that I’m still perfecting.

  • Adam Baggett says:

Looks great. I am putting MH on my tank but I have thought about LED. Looking forward to seeing what filtration you have, I know nano’s can change quickly.

  • rick says:

Nice Solana, whats the Sexy tank doing for filtration?

  • Moe says:

Great looking tank, thanks for giving the nanos a little love!! More, more, more!!

  • Alec says:

    its prob apex jr

  • Isham Whittington says:

Can’t wait to see your Solona get finished. Glad to see you finally decided on a nano reef. I think you will grow to love it. Yes you have more limits on what you can do with fish and even corals, but a big advantage is it’s easier to aquascape because it’s not as big and being as you have less fish easier to keep and eye on everyone to make sure they’re happy. Oh, and if you think having 2 tanks is a shore, you’d hate my house. lol I currently have 8 aquariums, 7 salt, and 1 freshwater. I however have 2 things going for me currently. 1. 6 of my saltwater tanks are fish only, 1 even just has 1 fish, a frogfish. 2. I work at a fish store. I guess the 2nd reason is probably the most helpful, great deals and I’m always there if I need anything. lol What is my number 1 problem you may ask? Prioritizing my buying, most of my tanks are understocked and therefor if I see a fish that would go great in one tank, I usually end up with it. My current project is a 30 breeder nano reef tank, but I keep buying fish for my 90 gallon FOWLR, so my progress is going fairly slowly. Would I change it and go with less tanks given the chance? Heck no, I love all of my tanks and each one allows me to live up to my obsession. 🙂 Happy Reffing everyone.

my tanks: 30gl breeder reef, 20gl long reef, 20gl tall fowlr, 30gl cube fowlr, 37gl cube fowlr, 12gl nao cube undecided, 90gl fowlr, and 10gl freshwater

  • nathan says:

WOW that is very nice mark great job so far cant wait for more videos on the tank on ? thoough how did you get into this job or is it just a hobby?

  • Thanks Matt, I try hard.

  • Ted..daily water changes? Errr…that’s like shaving everyday…its a PITA!

  • Yeah…I already lost 2 fish out of it. I know I can put the mesh over the top, but IMO, that makes it look like crap.

  • Isham – that’s insane! I’d never be able to keep up.

  • Isham Whittington says:

Yea, it’s a ton of work. lol But, I work at a fish store like I said so I’m used to taking care of a few hundred fish at a time. Taking care of the few I have at my house is no problem compared to that. Not gonna lie, I get a lot of help from my mom as well. lol

  • Werner says:

Great piece, can you state where you got the purple hammer?
Did you say it was ORA?

    thanks

  • Mike says:

  • dan says:

It’s an apex jr I bet

  • AlexL says:

I think we’re all betting that the junior sized piece of equipment is the Apex Jr. Give us more details, the suspense is killing us!

Great to hear that you’re covering nano tanks as well with your new Solana. I started my first tank of any kind 8 months ago and been enjoying it ever since, a 15g.

  • WILLIAM LARA says:

LOL.. UR COMMENT ON FISH JUMPIN OUT!!!!! SO FUNNY I HAD A CLOWN FISH THAT I ALWAYS HEAR AT NITE JUMP UP AND HIT THE GLASS HOOD. ONE DAY I FOUND THAT CLOWN FISH MISSING. I THOUGHT SOMEONE HAD STOLD IT CUZ I HAD ROOMMATES LIVING THERE OR MY WIFE WAS JUST NOT LIKE THE CLOWN FISH..

  • Wes…I was starting to wonder if anyone got that joke!

  • Chris says:

Somewhere to get started on coral; at least some of my favorite lps…

    Black Tubastrea
Walking Dendro – but you’ll have to block off a path for him
Yuma Ricordia – frag them and sell them for major $$
Australian Elegance – not the Indo
Acanthophyllia deshayesiana – aka donut coral
    Warpaint Scoly
Platygyra – better than a favia any day
And you should probably find a cool trach somewhere as well

  • Chris says:

+1 for all the hardware. I can’t wait to see your progress!

  • garrison says:

is it a junior sized cone skimmer?

  • Damian says:

    Is it Neptune jr controller????

  • Bill E. says:

Hey mark , great site… I am a reef enthusiast! I have a 24g nanocube as my first tank . My first mistake. But we live and learn right? I finally got my own ro/di unit from bfs about 6 weeks ago, after I realized I couldn’t trust my LFS. I am having trouble with red algae on my glass and back wall it doesn’t look like slime like i’ve seen in the past, it doesn’t grow on my rock or gravel, and it takes about 4 days to come back after I scrape it off and do a 6 gallon water change every friday. I am on my 6th water change with the new ro/di unit. Do I need to just leave it alone and see what happens? I don’t have much live stock and don’t want to add anything untill I figure out why the red algae and get it under control. Should I try the 3 days of darkness? What do you think Is necessary equipment/set up for a 24g reef enthusiast? I am 2 years in a ton of online knowledge but no sustained success yet.

  • Bill says:

Before I order my MP 10. What do you recommend wireless or not?

Great video! Thanks for all the effort and time you put into all of this.

  • Parj says:

    Hi Mark,

    Awesome tank!

I am considering starting up a nano tank and wanted to purchase the Solano 34, just like yours. But I can’t find it anywhere, where did you find it?

    Thanks,
    Parj

  • ChrisG says:

    Nice Nano Mark.
    I run a 36 gall with lighting: twin 22″ 50/50 florescent and a Panorama blue (440) module.
Do you find that the glare from your LED banks is “disturbing” as you view the tank because you don’t have a full canopy. I had to “drape” the front of my lights because the Blue is so bright particularly when I am sitting in the room and that’s a lot because it’s in my office!

  • Ryder says:

I like the sexy tank I’m glad your doing nano tanks even though I don’t have one

  • Ryder says:

Mark I thought you hated tanks without canopies

  • Stevo4535 says:

Mark keep up the great work!! I cant wait to see some updates on this system. I have a tank that is almost identical to the one you are doing equipment wise…. mp10wes, ecoxotic, rimless, and Tunze everywhere ….

You can check it out with updated pictures constantly here:
    http://www.michiganreefers.com/forums/members-tanks/118880-20-rimless-mini-dream-build.html

You are doing a great service to the hobby!

  • Stevo4535 says:

Oh, and the Apex jr is simply a game changer in the controller world! I cant wait to play with it.

  • william lata says:

Hey everyone I have a 20 gallon hit a little to much coral and I was wondering.. how should I transfer it to my not set up yet 30 gallon tank..

  • William..get your 30g setup and once it is ready to go (it has cycled) transfer over your corals. Make sure you temperature acclimate them!

  • Stephen…I’m jealous! A sump! nice build.

  • Ryder…I’m not a fan of tanks w/out canopies, but I didn’t have a choice on this one. I like a canopy better, but I’m getting along with no canopy on the sexy tank.

  • Stevo4535 says:

Thanks Mark, its is still in the shadow of your 90… 🙂

  • matt says:

    hi mark

  • matt says:

when is the koralia smart wave going to be released. if it is already where can i buy it for a good price

  • Jose says:

I went on EkoExotics site and couldn’t find the fixture you have there. Is this custom built? Where did the stand and light fixture come from? Any chance you can give me exact specs, I would love to buy this for my current Solana. PUHLEEEEEEAASSSsE

  • matt says:

    hey mark,
i need your help for my aquarium. I am having trouble finding a perfect location for my aquarium. One option is putting near a door I could email a picture to show if this is a good position i think its not but worth a try
    😀

  • Patrick says:

Hi, I would want to get myself a saltwater aquarium similar to your sexytank, and want to know the approximate price and equipment that i would need.

  • Ryder says:

Mark get an in wall tank too plzzzzzzz

  • Nancy says:

Would love to see some really pretty corals in that sexy tank!!

  • Me too. I’m being real picky though! You can’t rush art!
