Couldnt have said it better, I wonder if someone makes little clips for hoses when you are doing a water change for them to stay in place whether it’s on the bucket or for the tank. Thoughts?
Hey, they do make clips that attach to your bucket and can adjust to any size hose and hold it place. and you don’t have to worry about it . I got it at my lfs.
I use the same bucket each time I change water. At the top of the inside of the bucket I epoxied a 1-inch length of 3/4″ PVC pipe. When changing water I thread the loose end of the hose through the PVC pipe. The pipe serves as clip for the hose and never gets lost.
Happened to me many years back when tearing down a tank to move. Didn’t catch it until the neighbor downstairs came up and asked if we had left the bathtub running. Oops.
I also had a hose leak on my floor before. So to cause no more trouble I started to use blacktape or masking tape over the hose to the tank and bucket and it’s been working for me so far, so good, and that’s my tip of the week. Thanks for reading.
I was changing water today, my mistake was not leaving it unattended but not watching the level of the water in my waste bucket. I guess I got about a gallon on the floor before I was able to stop it.

An inexpensive way I do this is with a common clothespin and a rubber band to hold the hose to it 😉
Oh, been there and done that…..
I made a simple Utube out of 1/2″ PVC for the tank end and a simple plastic clamp for the bucket.

Tap plastic has the clips for the hose!
True, happened many times…

Anyone who’s ever had a fish tank of any kind has had this happen to them.
