How An Aquarium Is Made

As much as we all talk about what’s inside our tanks, without the tank itself, you wouldn’t have anything to stare at all day!

I’ll take you behind the scenes @ Dutch Aquarium Systems to show you how an aquarium is made.

    Does DAS have a website?

  • M Harris says:

Mark, Im sure someone has asked you this before in the past when you first showed us the tank, but how much did the tank you had built cost you? Im needing one about twice that size, but would at least give me a ball park on what it cost you and I can x’s that by 2 and get a close cost of what mine would be. Thanks

  • Mark H. says:

    Mark,
Pretty cool, now if we only could see it full of water with the lights on…

  • Raphael says:

Yet another superbly-well-done video. 6 well-spent minutes of education.

  • Earl says:

That was a neat video. I love the manufacturing process of just about everything. When I use to drive trucks long haul, one of the things that I liked the most was going to different manufactures to pick up a load and being able to see how different things that we use everyday are made. Cool video.

  • BENCAE says:

Haha….That bigger tank was mine I made for a client. Seriously.

  • Quit bragging BEN !!

  • Earl…I always want to know what is inside the big rigs going down the road. Ditto with the factories they pull into!

  • Jesse says:

Great video Mark! Thanks for a wonderful job, yet again.

    I want a bigger tank!

  • Mark says:

An excellent & very informative clip.

    Awesome Show Mark! Loved it.

  • RogerWilco357 says:

So the tank was expensive or better yet free?

  • Zac says:

    Verry cool video!

  • Byron says:

I’ve known about DAS from my fresh water planted tank days.

  • karen says:

    That was awesome!!

  • Tim Harlow says:

That was great fun to watch. Very interesting! I got a little scared when the pane of glass was falling. It would have been icing on the cake to actually see how they put a tank together, but if I had an extra hand I would still give this video three thumbs-up.

I am just drooling over these large tanks. Just need to get an extra friend or two, else I’d never get one set up.

Thanks Mark , this is by far one of the top Quick Tips/build shows I have seen . Thanks again

love that place, image the possibility ?..:-}.

    Hi Mark,
great video, is there a follow up detailing the assembly process. regards

  • Murat says:

    Nice Episode, thanks.

  • Gordon Ray says:

Wow–very cool! Thanks for the insider’s view. Now if we could just see the assembly. . . they’ve got the best of my curiosity!!

  • Mark, gotta say, this was a GREAT video…and DAS to boot. My first tank over 40 gallons was an integrated DAS…we sold TONS of DAS back when I worked at retail. Great tank company, and great to see them getting some exposure.

  • Jeanette B says:

That was a blast to watch. I think one of the most amazing parts was the huge pane of glass falling onto the cutting table! Thanks for the instant, SloMo replays, too. I just wonder what that shiny little chunk was that came flying out with the gust of wind… How cool that so much of the process is automated. DAS should certainly be posting your video on their website!

  • RL Simpson says:

Don’t burn that wood! That was OSB board which uses glue containing arsenic among other things. There’s over 30 carcinogens in that stuff!

  • Steven says:

Great video! Some people prefer glass tanks over acrylic. The best thing is that you were able to show us great manufacturing. I am sure they are awesome tank builders.

  • haythamhashem says:

So DAS don’t use tempered glass for their aquariums?

  • haythamhashem…DAS does not and most other aquarium makers don’t either. Some will on thinner sized glass, but as the glass size gets thicker the price of tempered is too high
