hi i have a 25L nano tank with a built in sump.
i have been away from my tank for a couple of days and when i got back there is a floating layer of scum on the water surface.
what is it and how do i get rid of it?

Mike Paletta apparently had a bleaching problem that mystified him. He bought a red LED flashlight and discovered at night he had a problem with these TINY starfish molesting his coral. He got some sort of shrimp that eats them and he said they must have caused the starfish to release some sort of alarm chemical. The remaining starfish went into a panic and went for the glass, where he was able to pick them out. He showed a handful of skeletons in the podcast. That cause would explain why you have bleaching in the DT and not in the frag tank. Wild huh?

I started my new 125 reef tank in June using the Dr. Tim’s One and Only to cycle. I have some corals doing very well and some others not so good.

Hi. For people who want to know what fish and chips are: The fish is usually cod, coverd in batter and deep fried. The chips are what you call french fries, only thicker. I lost a large piece of plate montipora. It was the size of a dime 2 years ago, when I brought it over the net. It been growing well under t5’s, and was fraged in two, total area 45 sqare inches. My pink birds nest also started to go, but is now stable. I still love the hobby, but some times it sucks!!.

Lisa and everyone else who said they can’t view the video: I can’t figure out why the video will play for some of you and not others. The video plays fine on all my machine and mobile devices. There is not a defining reason why some computers will play the videos and others can’t. :-/
Hey Mark,
For the pumping the water from the basement to the next level, you could try plumbing a spicket on the level you need the water. We did this and it was easy to plumb with flexible tubing and has the faucet for your water control. We used an existing lightswitch as the on/off for the pump in the basement. So I can pump my RODI to the next level where my mixing tank is. No more hauling water. 🙂

I was wondering if it is alright to put a carpet on my hard wood floor underneath the aquarium im getting for christmas. I just want there to be no water on the floor and I just read that part on your no noses guide to start a aquarium vol.1 so i was wondering if its a good idea plzzzz send me back a response
Colton…you can put carpet down and I’d leave the wood exposed. The carpet can hold water which can make the wood warp. If the water is on the hardwood, you can easily wipe it all up.
